This year’s autumn/winter fashion shows celebrated individual beauty, not uniformity. Forget copycat beauty trends if they’re not your thing. It’s time to do you. From graphic liner to glitter, matte lips to glowing cheeks, this year, we’re seeing it all. Need a little inspiration? Here’s our guide to 6 of the best this season:
Eyes
You may be saving your boldest beauty ideas for next summer’s festival scene. Don’t! This season, try glitter, arty liner and lengthy lashes for a look that’s not so much festival chic, as festive chic come early.
- Graphic Liner
Go as graphic as you dare. Rock daring black liner à la Kenzo, Oscar de la Renta and Giamba. Or go psychedelic with a rainbow of coloured liners inspired by Peter Philips at Fendi.
- Glitter
As long-time fans of glitter, we were pleased to see that Burberry and Kenzo have finally caught up with Instagrammers everywhere. The inner and outer corners of the eyes are a safe place to start if glitter is a newcomer to your makeup bag. When you’re ready to progress, try a burst of glitz from your eyes across your cheekbones (see Burberry). You’ll need a body glue with a brush to secure your glitter. Glastonbury, eat your heart out!
- Lashings of lashes
Right now, lashes are messy, separated and hyper-defined. The Blonde Salad calls this look ‘Twiggy/spider lashes. Mascara on mascara, on more mascara’, and insists we opt for pale lids to show them off. We agree. Or, channel Emporio Armani with natural looking, dewy skin and blacker-than-black lashes with plenty of length.
Skin
A healthy glow is key for autumn/winter 2016 skin, but as cold weather, central heating and the festive season tend to take their toll, we may need a little help to achieve it.
- Shimmering highlights
Valentino showcased iridescent powder on the cheekbones, eyelids and cupid’s bow on AW 2016’s catwalks, while Gucci went for a healthy glow. We love the natural tones of their fall/winter 2016 beauty collection. It might be wise to start the detox early this year if we want skin that flawless this autumn!
Lips
Vampy is the watchword for autumn lips, with celebs like Iggy Azalea and Kate Hudson going gothic in everything from black to blackcurrant tones. This is a great guide to 9 of the best lipsticks of the season, ranging from crimson to noir.
- Matte
Matte lips just aren’t going away – do we have GBBO’s Candice to thank for that? Maybe not, but the princess of patisserie looks set to launch her own lipstick range and we can’t wait to see it. Her first shade needs to be called Merry Berry.
- Vampy
Remember the old adage to keep your eye makeup minimal if you’re going for a heavy lip? Well, that still stands, except that this year, designers have been balancing dark lips with heavy brows. Sheer foundation keeps the rest of your face light. Remember to warm up your cheeks with a peachy blush – Halloween is over, after all. Vampy and vampire are not the same thing.
